The Red Sox on Wednesday acquired closer Joel Hanrahan and a prospect from the Pirates in exchange for reliever Mark Melancon and a trio of minor leaguers.

Also headed to Pittsburgh in the deal are pitcher Stolmy Pimentel, infielder Ivan De Jesus and first baseman/outfielder Jerry Sands. Along with Hanrahan, the Red Sox also received infielder Brock Holt.

The Red Sox have acquired Joel Hanrahan from the Pirates.

According to a report, Pittsburgh will receive outfielder Jerry Sands and right-hander Stolmy Pimentel in the deal. Other players are expected to be involved as well.

The Astros have traded minor leaguer Rob Rasmussen to the Dodgers for John Ely.

Ely spent most of last season with Triple-A Albuquerque, where he went 14-7 with a 3.20 ERA in 27 starts.

The Indians traded outfielder Shin-Soo Choo to the Reds and acquired prized pitching prospect Trevor Bauer from the Diamondbacks on Tuesday night in a three-team deal involving nine players, according to an ESPN.com report.

The Rays have traded James Shields and Wade Davis to the Royals in exchange for top prospects Wil Myers, Jake Odorizzi and two other minor leaguers.

Kansas City hasn't had a winning season since 2003.

"We have to start winning games at the major league level, and the way you develop a winning culture is by winning major league games," Royals general manager Dayton Moore said. "It's time for us to start winning at the major league level."

Mike Montgomery and third baseman Patrick Leonard also are headed to the Rays, while the Royals will receive a player to be named or cash.

"We're constantly working to balance the present and the future, and always trying to thread the needle," Rays executive Andrew Friedman said. "As an organization we rely more on the contributions of our young players basically than anyone else in baseball, and with this trade we're hoping to replenish our system and add a lot of players we feel can help us sustain this run of success that we've had for the last five years."

A day after Michael Young waived his no-trade clause, the Rangers shipped the veteran to the Phillies in exchange for two pitchers.

"Given the makeup of our roster, and some of our internal options, I think this was the right way to go," general manager Jon Daniels said.

The Phillies are sending right-hander Josh Lindblom and minor league righty Lisalverto Bonilla to the Rangers.

The Phillies have acquired outfielder Ben Revere from the Twins for right-handers Vance Worley and Trevor May.

The 24-year-old left-handed hitter batted .294 with 40 stolen bases in 124 games last season.

"Ben is an outstanding, young, controllable center fielder who fits nicely with our club," Phillies GM Ruben Amaro Jr. said in a statement.

The Rockies have bolstered their bullpen by acquiring Wilton Lopez from the Astros in exchange for Alex White and prospect Alex Gillingham.

Colorado will also send either cash or a player to be named later to Houston.

Lopez, 29, went 6-3 with a 2.17 ERA and 10 saves in 64 appearances last season.

The Rays have acquired Raul Mondesi Jr. from the Brewers in exchange for Burke Badenhop.

Badenhop, a right-handed reliever, was 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA in 66 games last season.

Mondesi, 20, hit .231 with five home runs and 32 RBIs in 68 games at rookie league Helena.
